This is a dial from a Seth Thomas cottage clock that was flaking. It was too far gone and the remaining paint wouldn't respond to attempts to salvage it, so I stripped it to bare metal, painted it first with a white chalk paint, dry-sponged it randomly with a darker chalk paint. Sanded lightly when dry to blend colors. Then lightly coated with thin amber shellac. This was followed by a fruitwood gel stain which I wiped off, leaving a bit on around the raised portion. Final finish is matte poly spray.

Numerals and time track are burnished rub-ons.

Nice work! I like dials that don't look new or newly repainted

even if they are. This one was done for me by Lee Davis. I specifically asked for it to be aged. What he started with is the bright white I sent him. 20210123_094356 (2).jpg I have done a number of aged dials myself, using several different techniques, so I applaud your example and appreciate the work it takes to do them. clock dial enlarged 2.jpg 20191020_081153 (2).jpg Ives master photo.jpg dial Nov 21 21 e (2).jpg
