I am posting 2 watches today which I hope will be of interest to some people. Both are relatively modern and into the era of higher jewel counts (whether for marketing or accuracy is a matter of debate!).
The first is an open-faced silver (0.800) pocket watch by Zenith. This watch is marked 68-21 under the balance. I have not been able to find much information on this watch other than a few comments on forums. As I understand it, there was a small run of watches made in ?1962. Most were Zenith "Prima" with 17 jewels but some were Extra Prima with 21 jewels as with this example.
The two-tone case appears to be entirely 0.800 silver and not plated. Even the bow is stamped for 0.800 silver which is unusual in Continental European watches. Given the 80% purity I am assuming alloying with copper gives the pinkish tone.
Does anyone know anything more about these watches (when produced, how many etc)?
