I wonder what was originally there before the blue and gold border was applied?
Jonathan, do you think the blue is original? It seems to have been rather hastily applied, covering the edge of the white dial in places, which is what made me wonder. An usual all over single colour dial. There appears to be a signature below 6, if so can you make it out? The style of the dial suggests to me it is before 1800, does the back of dial have a marker's mark?
Having a closer look I can see what you mean, so it is possible it has, the gold decoration looks to have been quite well done.Jonathan, do you think the blue is original? It seems to have been rather hastily applied, covering the edge of the white dial in places, which is what made me wonder.

I think I see a "c" as the third letter, and maybe a "k" next, so TICK...? Also are there any other ....castles? I think I am seeing ...lcastle.Trying to make out the name, I think I can see Tra at the start of the name, and castle at the end? There was a John Tranham of Newcastle, whose dates are listed as circa 1815, and a Joseph Trankle 1864.
