As Phil pointed out, there is a difference between favorite clock, and favorite clock one happens to own. My collection is mainly American clocks, so my favorite, in my collection, is a Seth Thomas off center pillar and scroll. The list of ones I drool when seeing (real or pictures) are many. They would have to include some of the early banjo clocks, Fashion perp. calendars, Ithaca 3 1/2 parlor, E.N. Welch Patti series. My want is much bigger than my have.

Hello Mike
You must be proud of that Double Male swinger, I also have one, but not complete and I know of only one more out there. I am sure there are more of them but WHERE, maybe this board will locate them. JUST HOW RARE IS THE DOUBLE MALE SWINGERS?

One of my favorite clocks is the Ansonia Florida and Group page 378 two large ladies on top of the Florida, 35 inches tall, that is the name now listed in Trans book, but in an earlier book it was listed as Spring.

The next clock is the Ansonia Virginia with the Boar hunter statue, page 408 #1588
in trans book.

Sorry one of these days I will take the time to learn how to post pictures.

These are two of the clocks that I like the most but if this is my WIFE asking again, I
LIKE THEM ALL AND EACH ONE IS MY FAVORITE!!!

HOW MANY DOUBLE MALE SWINGER ARE OUT THERE, PLEASE RESPOND.

I found a very old Neuchatel a few years back, I'm afraid to do too much to it for fear of "hurting" it. It will run for a few hours or minutes but stops on "lifting" (and it almost always is "lifting"). I think the movement is simply amazing and that is what I appreciate the most in old clocks.

I guess your favorite should most likly be your first..

This clock has been handed down in my family since the late 1800's..It came from England in
1932 to my Grandfather and to my parents in 1950.

I've had it since 1987 and well remember it just hanging on the wall and in the attic for 20 + years..

I restored it to original condition and run it only a few times a year...

I'm saving it for future generations to enjoy..

http://userweb.nni.com/gre406/beha.jpg

It is in Rick Ortenburger's book "Black Forest Clocks" printed in 1991..Page 33

My E. Howard #3 banjo is my favorite right now. I guess because it's in my office right next to the computer.

It originally was in the Syracuse RR Station. There are two labels on the back from an Oswego NY jeweler stating such.

The #3 is the perfect size. Not to big, not to small.

My favorite is probably my Art Deco Vienna Regulator, plain light wood case with rounded corners, solid wood door with a round glassed opening for the dial and an elliptical opening in the lower part. The lower glass is in 5 pieces, very thick and beveled on all edges. The case is so streamlined that the wall stabilizer screws are inside the case. The dial has Arabic numbers, very legible with plain blued steel hands, which look like large versions of hands for a railroad watch. Massive works, the plates are thicker than those of the usual Becker et al regulators one sees, maintaining power on all three trains, the pendulum is a big hunk of brass covered lead, must weigh about 10 pounds, instead of the light brass & sheet metal one sees on the garden variety regulator. There is no name of the movement. There was a name on the dial when I bought it 35 years ago, but I cleaned the dial when I got home with the clock and you know the story. One squirt with the cleaner and the ink was gone.

I collect movements more than I do clocks. I enjoy unique mechanisms, different escape mechanisms, power sources and long duration clocks.
There is a clock that meets all of these qualities, the Reutter Atmos.

Hello again.

As usual my favorite clock is the last one you buy, just ask my wife.

any way, i had found a movement for an Ansonia swinger on the net in London and got that a long drop one, well then almost two weeks now, ago I found an Ansonia Gloria at the local Antique show here in my home town. Can not beat that, they bring them here close to me now.

So now the Gloria Swinger is close to the top of the favorite clock, but when I get the Superba and La Source with the candelabra's going there will be a toss up. Any way my all time favorite clocks are ANSONIA.

You also should inclued Statues in yourfavorite clock, if you could I would have put Ansonia Winter there, Yes she is also my newest statue.

I can send pictures of them if you would like to see them, just ask.

If you are trying to repair a statue or find the missing part of an Ansonia statue also just ask.

Hi Mike
No I am not finished with it, I need more time then I have.
I just got an Ansonia Huntress swinger statue that needs so work on her index finger and put the tube back in the palm.
When I bought it I thougt it was just the Huntress with a bow but this one did not have a screw hole in the palm of her hand making her the swinger statue. It is also on the short base, being the early one.

Thanks for asking, I do think I have to many projects.

My favourite clock (that I actually own) is a Black Forest schild dial strike of about 1840, that ticks away on the wall for year after year, keeping time to within a minute a week, with no attention at all (really MUST clean and oil it sometime!) It even has its original side doors.
What I would like, though, would be a verge lantern clock or bracket quarter repeater of about 1700....Unlikely to happen, though - may have to make one - not quite the same :frown:

Keep ticking
Mike

This one comes from out of left field- I can't seem to get over the looks of the ST "Litchfield". Mine has an arabic dial. The simplicity of the case, the reverse paint on the door...to me, perfect looks. I guess it's not even a clock, but a timepiece...does that count? I have other clocks I like, too. This question puts one on the spot. It's like asking which one is your favorite child.

Mine is still my Birge and Fuller column and cornice clock:

http://photobucket.com/albums/v473/sooth15/?action=view&current=Progress.jpg

It's still being reapired. I'm giving it the royal treatment. I'm using nothing but the best materials I can get. I'm still looking for some good square nails to reattach the backboard. I also still need a weight, and an original bob.

I am still working on the tablets. Not sure which colours to pick, or what pattern to use.

Favorite(s)...

The first clock I started my collection with will always have a warm spot in my heart. A “Plain Jane” Waterbury Short Drop, 12” Dial, T/S, Calendar. Ca 1890’s

Then of course there’s always my most recent purchase last Saturday, New Haven "Occidental" ca 1895.

Putting aside these two… an Ansonia “Peasant Girl” figural clock is a nice piece.

Then variety is the spice of life… right?

Next?

Not to get off on a tangent but I can sympathize with Popeye.I got tired of trying to find square nails for my retainer strips and decided to make my own on my lathe.I just took some .045 round stock and chucked it up in my lathe and used the 90 degree indexes on my plate, filing each side flat at the 90 degree lock points.I gotta tell you they didn't look too shabby. Its just something you may want to try if you can't find the proper nails.
Oh Yeah! without a doubt my favorite clock is my five bell S.T. Sonora that I just acquired. Is there any quarter chimer out there that sounds any sweeter?
Respectfully,Bob Fullerton

Actually, Timesaver's nails are not that great. Fantastic price, but they're all the wrong size and proportions. For example, the 2 inch nails are HUGE and about 1/4 inches thick. How are you supposed to use those? I need inch and a half that are thin, and they don't make them.

I might be able to get some through Richelieu. They have some.

Popeye: I have seen your Forestville Column clock. It's a gorgeous clock.

No offense or anything, but WHY didn't you just make it out of walnut? Walnut would match better (especially the grain, since oak has a really aggressive, open grain). Walnut is also a hell of a lot easier to carve. And a small piece would be nearly free from any decent store that sells specialty woods (they usually have a scap bin).

PS: The only way to get a good match, is to get another sample of oak, and try several dark stains on it. Then you use the one that matches the best, and use more coats if necessary (keep additional coats to a minimum, though, since it will get thick and gummy if you put too many).
