Hi Guys

the Wuba clock is back , this time it has been passed to me as I just had a child, and then to her etc etc

I am wanting to know if anyone has replaced this one day with an 8 day movement that worked??, or if anyone knows of any of these movements locations so that I could buy a new one, or a very good refurbishment. I know it requires bushings, but I have yet to get set up for that, and to do here would be in the hundreds, so where its an heirloom, and not being sold , I thought maybe I could replace with new

Here is a picture, made by Wuba but named a Nu Elk Syn Sin from the Netherlands

You could have that one repaired, or you could replace it with a Regula 25 (they come with different pendulum lengths, so measure it). I don't think you'd be able to put an 8 day in there. Looks like limited room.

It looks really dirty but I don't see any obvious bushing issue.
Why not clean it first and then see what you need.
You can also just squirt it with some liquid wrench to
clean the dried stuff off first to evaluate the bushings
before taking it apart and cleaning. The movement you
have is most likely better than a Regula 25 you'd replace it
with.

Hi Tinker

Those photos are when I first got to clean and tidy for her 8 months ago, it requires repair on the hour count side, as it wont reset per hour as to have appropriate rings, will do manually but not while ticking along, its right at the end of the count slide, I am unsure what to call it, maybe I will remove again, and take a picture of what exactly the issue is, the local guy here said it was un fixable due to the plating issue, but will post for you guys to look at, i had previously posted it and tried to remedy, but it only worked for 12 hours, then only rang once for each hour after midnight

Thx for the response though, I would like to keep original of course, but it may be to far gone, if only they had of cleaned it over the years, i wouldn't be in this, in fact I dont think it had ever been cleaned in its life, based on how dirty, length of soaking time etc when I first got it

If it has the plated pivots, you probably should go with the replacement.
There really isn't such a thing as unrepairable. There is a cost wise limit though.

Just a quick FYI the staggered hole sets in the base almost look like a Regula 34 would fit. It is 8 day and other than the chain holes will generally fit where a Regula 25 was. I have done a number of these conversions for customers.
I say this only as an alternative to repairing the WUBA. Hope this helps.

So i have removed the movement, i quickly compared to a regula movement that I have ready for another clock to install, I measured and it appears to be the same size as an 8 day regula movement

My question is, could i just not swap out the back plate from old to new, as its not worn etc, and then remove the bird rod in the front as its not required

I am unsure if Wuba copied from the Cuckoo side of things, but all wheel holes are in same places, same wheels for chains etc

Looking for thoughts:???:

I could be wrong but looking at the original picture, the movement
there is a one day clock. Your going to swap parts with an 8 day?
The 8 day has an extra set of wheels below the chain wheels than one day
has.

Hi Tinker

I measured with micrometer tonight, and am perplxed, its 76 mm by 77mm, or 3 x 3 inches, my regula 25 is smaller than that, i looked around and the closest one I can find is a Regula 34 one day, but have also seen them as an 8 day

I also discovered that this old movement is in fact a cuckoo movement, i believe a regula, as the bird arm and spring, metal works that force it out etc were all removed, I am totally embarrassed that I had not caught this before, now whether that's how it was cased, or was fixed without family knowledge, who knows

So i can take the back plate and put on a Regula 34 as well as bird arm removal etc, and I should be ok, but I had wondered whether i could do an 8 day instead, I will have to measure more, and call Perrins tomorrow

you are correct Tinker, 8 day no worky with that plate, will get the one day ordered, unless i think of a way to mount that post myself, or get local machine shop to make me a plate

thx again

The 34 came as both one day and 8 day ( at least that is
what I've been told ). I've only seen them as 8 day.
I've got one on the wall right now.
I'm still wondering what it might take to fix the movement
you have now. Even plated pivots can be replaced.
