Wooden mantel case holding a Westclox Big Ben Style 5

I just reconditioned a Westclox Style 5 Big Ben picked up at an estate auction. The unusual thing (for me) is that this Big Ben is mounted in a wood mantel case. I can speculate that the case is homemade by a craftsman, but the fit and finish is very exact (although simple). Is anyone aware of the existence of 1940s era aftermarket providers of these cases?
