I am a new member, and I have a tall case clock with wood movement. I submitted photos to the American Clock Museum, and they said it was made by Joel Curtis of Cairo New York, circa 1825.

I repaired this clock myself. This mainly involved disassembly, and the repair of one broken gear using epoxy. I have a lot of photos I could submit, including photos of the gear repair.

I suspect your clock movement was made more about 1815-1818. He was issued three patents in 1814 for plate drilling, pinion slitting, cutting & pointing the teeth of clocks. Joel Curtis of Cairo, N.Y. (GreenCounty), who appears to have had close connections with the Terry operations at Niagara Brook or with Terry's short-term partner, Heman Clark, of the same shop. Mov'ts are distinctive, late-type 30-hr pull-ups. Cord holes in the seatboard are first drilled, then cut rectangular so each of the radial ends of the two rectangles has an arc of that initial hole.
The mov't and the lack of turnings or shape to the strike control levers and hammer arbor (whereas three plate pillar extensions
for dial support are normal for Seth Thomas or Terry mov'ts). At least for now, till more input is received, we can be reasonably
certain that mov'ts with these features can be called Joel Curtis products.

Thanks for your help Jim. I have ordered the book "An Empire in Time" to hopefully learn a bit more about Joel Curtis and his production of clocks.
