WINTERHALDER GRANDFATHER understanding chime correction.

I am attempting to restore this older Winterhalder clock movement. The chime correction feature is AWOL.
There seems to be a missing part as noted with a pencil. That post had a small steel pin in the end but no lever.
Is that why it does not correct at the top of the hour?

I don't see any other way.
If anyone has a movement like this in the bone pile, please chime in.

Does the dial indicate that there is a chime cut-off lever? That may be where it goes if it is missing.

This is my guess.

If that wheel is not the chime correction, is that the chime lock? If there is no cam and lever between the plates that could act as the chime correction, then I agree that the post having a pin but nothing on it is suspicious.

Top wheel is chime lock. When chime select disk rotates to next slot and pin drops in,,,. chime is stopped by that upper wheel. Chime is not arrested by any wheel inside plates.
There is a pin on the backside of the chime select disk with no apparent function.
I believe the empty post with missing lever is my issue.

Now that you mention the pin behind the chime disk I am reminded of the Smiths Enfield that uses that configuration for the chime correct. That pin might trigger the chime correction lever in a similar way as shown in the drawings (part 8 may be similar to your missing part) from the Conover chapter on the Smiths below. Is there a little cam similar to part 24 below with nothing to arrest it between the plates?

I believe you are correct. The post definitely has the shape for carrying a lever, and it is in correct relationship to the pin behind the locking plate. You will need the help of someone who has this movement. I would imagine the lever would not be difficult to manufacture, once you know what it should look like.
