Why do some quartz clocks have a swinging pendulum?

Is it functional or just decorative?

Basically made as replacements for the nostalic pendulum swings like a pendulum do.
A quartz clock has no need for a pendulum.
Earlier electronic clocks did require the pendulum and the quartz replacement movements needed to also have a replacement for the pendulum.
So, yes. It is just bling.

Thanks. I have a cute little Bulova quartz clock (Bulova Dalton Chiming Pendulum Table Clock) on order with a pendulum for show and rich, pleasing-sounding BONG chimes. The clock's "church bell" sounds make the little (3.75 x 6.25 x 9.5 inches, 2 pounds) clock sound "about as tall as Big Ben".
