As I am not able to look it up myselve at the moment, perhaps someone can assist me. On the painted dial of an eight day longcase is: John Eccleston and John Cockshoot Liverpool. Are they in any referencebooks? Thanks in advance.

Loomes Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World lists:-
Cockshoot John Rigby Street Liverpool Lancashire 1796
I cannot find any reference to John Eccleston

I have the same reference, and though I have both the Lancashire clockmakers book and the Northern England book both were written by Loomes.

There was an Ellison in Liverpool about the same time.

Thanks for the information. So it seems Cockshoot is the maket. Could it be that the name of the first owner was also placed on the dial then? Is that something sometimes was done?

If you search the indexes of surname or town, using name, you will get four references to Cockshoot and one to Eccleston
Cockshoot is a very unnusual name and it would not surprise me if they are related to John Cockshoot
I cannot comment on Eccleston because it is not unusual

It's an unusual clock with the date like that.
