• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Where should i start

Depends on your budget but I would suggest buying an 18th or 19thC longcase at auction to restore that you like the look of. People will have different views but that's what I'd start with. They are pretty simple movements as they dont have springs and are pretty robust.

i started reading every thread in ‘general clock discussions’ and ‘clock repair’… a great education , and no cost (although i joined up in appreciation and to help support the cause)

Welcome to the NAWCC's online Forums Jimbob1005!

I think you've come to the right place.
I agree with all that has been suggested so far.
You might want to start by reading over the "Sticky Threads" which are located at the top of each Forum.
Lurk and learn to search the Archives when you have questions. If you have specific questions, don't be afraid to ask. We were all "newbies' once.
Here's another good resource area to explore: https://theindex.nawcc.org/Repair-Learning.php

Again, welcome!

Hope to see you around.

I also sent you a private email with some suggestions and a search to locate the clocks at auction. We aren’t supposed to post current auction in the BB hence the private message.

Good luck.

I'm not familiar with the BHI, but it looks to me like they've developed some serious pathways to knowledge.

Here's one that may be of interest: Distance Learning Courses (DLC) : British Horological Institute

The BHI was one among many in the previous list I provided a link to but I just wanted to make sure you noticed it.

A bit pricey perhaps but not with all things considered I'm sure. Horology can be an expensive hobby and things add up quickly.

You're in great hands with Dean.

Regards,

Bruce
