One of my grandfather's wrist watches. Assembled in Taiwan with France case. Can't find a model number anywhere. Pretty sure it is pre 1980.

As far as I can tell, they stopped making this rubbish as soon as they could make a quartz movement. So pre 1980 for sure.

Rubbish is a bit harsh. This was in a box for 20 plus years. Wound it and it has been dead on for weeks.

The man's Grandfather's watch is far from rubbish. Sentimentally priceless I'd say.

True enough but I'd still toss it away even if my grandfather never wore it.

As my grandfather said, "I may not always be right but I'm never wrong".

Apologies. It is only an opinion from one whose job it was to keep watches working. Timex never fitted the category of keeping me in a job until they did make quartz watch.

That's a Timex M25, and I don't really know how to date them. They were made for decades starting in the 60s. Just by looking at the style of dial and case and using my gut, I agree with you that yours is probably from around 1980.

They are not as unserviceable as they look, I service a few (usually family watches with sentimental value) a year. They keep better time than you'd expect from their basic appearance. There's a reason why there were a zillion of them made.

Thanks. Any idea as to what the complete watch model is?

Compared to some of the stuff out there now, I think it is a relatively elegant watch. And it has stayed dead nuts on since I wound it about a month ago. Easily sat in a box for over 20 years before I got it.

So it ran for a month on one wind?

LOL, no. I wound it for the first time in over 20 years about a month ago. Is long as I wind it daily, it stays on time.

It was the way you said it that prompted the comment. ;)
You probably should keep it running.
My reservations about servicing Timex stem mainly from the fact that they were never built with servicing in mind.

Coincidentally I just serviced one of these tonight. It was a bit of a nightmare because the mainspring had come detached(not a mechanic friendly repair). Worse than that it was a rare prototype for a Mickey Mouse watch with a holographic crystal that never went into production and had some epoxy to keep the bezel on tight! To answer your question it was made in 1984. The date mechanism is kind of ingenious but finicky to set up. These are absolutely serviceable despite some folks opinions and have uncanny reliability despite their simplicity.-Cort

As an apprentice I was told to not service them. The boss had two acronyms. NBG (no bloody good) and NWR (not worth repair). Yes I have serviced one or two myself at home but I'm no fan. They are about the same standard as many cheap alarm clocks so they should do OK. The only pin pallet watch I was allowed to service were Oris.

They made the same movement for gents watches for decades. The same style too.

The base movement was used across much of their product line but beachcomber’s watch was one of a short lived version and one of the last made I think. The late date may explain the lack of date and product code. -Cort
