A little background on my successful project, snooping around an internet watch sales web site some years ago, I came across a listing under misc parts that was described as "assorted Elgin parts" $23. My eye was immediately drawn to the butterfly cut out on the plate that was partially visible. So I blew up the pic , rotated it 90 degrees and was surprised to see it was a "United States Watch Co." grade Marion movement. A19j with gold settings KW/KS $2700 watch for $23! The primary problem turned out to be a broken staff, why the rest of the watch was completely disassembled right down to the 3 piece dial was a mystery.... and yes just to make it fun there were a few Elgin parts in the box.
Long story short, all numbers matched and I ended up with a very nice watch from a box of loose parts and a donor watch and case that I already had.
