What should be the maximum output RPM's for an 8 mm lathe motor?

standard sherline lathe rpm is 2800... but they sell 10,000 rpm pulleys for people doing engraving....

its a bit how long is a piece of string - I've seen the older style 1/10 hp motors, the ones you might describe as a "watchmakers lathe motor", from 5,000 - 10,000 rpm. Of course what you get on the spindle is a function of the pulley ratios and the old ones usually had a small pulley on the motor so were geared down

Apart from the standard machining recommendation found in handbooks, it seems that the lathes themselves were rated for speeds of up to 5000 RPM.
