What is this wire for?

Greetings!

This E. Ingraham kitchen clock is my first experience with an Ingraham movement.
Can one of you identify the wire that I'm lifting on my finger (see picture)? By its position, it seems as though it could be used to arrest the chime mechanism if a weight was attached to the bottom end (there is a loop at the bottom, which is hard to see in this picture).
There were no likely 'other' parts included with the clock - not even a winding key - so if this is some kind of accessory, I have no clue.

I've seen this wire in pics of other Ingrahams on the internet, but haven't found a name/purpose for it yet.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

That wire trips the striking mechanism to synch up the strike with the hour hand, since these are countwheel striking movements. I always found it faster to just move the hour hand to the hour last struck and advance the hands accordingly to the correct time.

Yes, you push the wire upwards to trigger the next strike.
