I'm wearing my Limes Nightflight Vintage. Purchased this when they were first introduced here in the USA. Still one of my favorites.

Re: What are YOU wearing today?

Today, I might decide to wear my NOS Gruen Veri-Thin "driver's" watch with the articulated lugs. It can be worn on top of the wrist, or on the edge of the wrist.

There's a story that goes with this one and another NOS Gruen in my collection, of about the same vintage. These were given to me by an executive of a major Swiss watch company agency in Canada, nearly 30 years ago. He had been with Gruen until they folded, and these were live samples that he had acquired over the years. When he found out I collected watches, he sent them to me. He wouldn't accept payment, so I found out from the area sales rep that he was a scotch drinker. I asked the rep to arrange a bottle of single malt the next time he was at his head office, which he did. The fellow was INCENSED that I would do that! Go figure!

    A WW2 12L Buren German Army watch

http://home.pacbell.net/hedgehog/buren-done.jpgPicked this up for $20 US. It has a refinished dial, beyond that it is all original. The German army added the letters "D" in front of the serial number and an "H" after the number as an acceptance mark. This example falls within 285 numbers of a known existing Buren, so it is probably the real deal. I am ambivalent about wearing this watch as you just don't know where it has been. There may be some major bad karma in this watch.

Re: What are YOU wearing today?

Thanks Adam. I'm not sure if the dial is original but it's at least an old refinish. I think the entire watch has aged quite beautifully. It has a lovely patina all around. I can't bring myself to ever touching it, however, if I do, I'd want it to look as good as yours. Yours looks fantastic!

I was also just drooling over your Omega that you posted. Gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing more, I hope. Nice photos.

Today it's raining so I'm wearing a 1980 GMT Master 16750 with matte dial and oyster bracelet.

Re: What are YOU wearing today?

Ducevro, great minds must think alike, as I'm wearing my GMT-Master (also a 16750) today as well, despite it being sunny here in Chicago.

    51.jpg

About my Meadowbrook, the dial's been refinished (by International Dial, who have applied the lume amazingly well). I normally don't refinish my dials, but I bought it with a poorly refinished dial (the lume was overlapping the inlaid enamel outlines of the numerals, and was an ugly green color), so decided to have it done properly. I have a white Meadowbrook as well, with original exploding numeral dial with painted black numerals.

Adam, well done! Mine was also a pepsi before I changed it. I have both inserts. They both are classic Rolex. Yours looks great with that jubilee bracelet.

You have a white gold meadowbrook too? Very nice! I think I prefer the wg to the yg, but I'm happy to have any of them! I'd love to see a photo of yours in wg if you feel like posting one sometime.

Thanks for the tip on International Dial. I have an Illinois New Yorker (see photo) that needs restoration. Do you have any other examples of their work?

So that I'm not drifting off topic I'll include a side photo of my GMT. I prefer the domed acrylic crystals to the sapphire crystals they offer on new ones.

Re: What are YOU wearing today?

Tom, thanks for the dial examples. I like the two-tone, exploding numbers dial on your Winthrop. I've admired some of your hammies before. You always have nice dials.

Today it's still threatening rain and I'm doing chores. Wearing one of my favorite beaters. It's a vintage Ollech & Wajs Precision Chronograph from the late 60's or early 70's. It's pretty banged up, which, to me, gives it character. I like the heavy rugged feel and the big domed crystal. It sets up high on the wrist.

    Ducevro,

The Valjoux 72 is a 3-register, and yours is a 2-register. Yours doesn't have an hour totalizer. Are you certain you have the caliber right? Did they do a caliber 72 in a 2-register? The attached Daytona is a Valjoux 72.

In case you are wondering about the color on this one, yes!- it is rose gold. It was made for the European market circa 1990, and I am told was only made for one year in this color, after which yellow gold only was used. Bezel (18 karat) and sub dials all pink! Speedmaster Automatic. It came with an ugly leather strap which I have replaced with a steel Omega bracelet. Steel because the only steel and 18 karat bracelet available at the time had yellow gold links. I bought it from the original owner who was desperate for cash. Just married, wife expecting, new house, and both had lost their jobs in the economic downturn at the time. I have just re-done it and replaced the crown, crystal, and pushers.

Thanks. None of the Hamilton catalogs I've got indicate it was ever available with a back dial, so I'm guessing it was a custom refinish. I think the watch is MUCH better looking with the black.

Just picked it up from service. New strap since it didn't have one initially and a replaced crystal with some internal tinkering.

The watch is from 1961 according the the M1 date stamp.
