Most of my clocks have a single hand, and like this a 12 hour dial. A lot of the modern single handed watches have a 24 hour dial which is harder to read as usefully. I can tell the time to the nearest 5 mins usually.

Thanks Mr. Time! Original dials are tough to come by so it's saying as is.

    Nice
What is the diameter of the watch? I looks fairly large.

Allan, curious, why did you call the Waltham a "dollar watch"? They sold for good money in the '40s. These days they are not much to look at but were stylish in the "day".

    Rockin a Ruhla!!

No jewels to bother you counting. And pin escapement accuracy!.

It is a good rugged daily user. I had to smoosh most every pivot on the front & back plates to get the gears meshing right.. When I got it it would stop often & the pivots were all very worn despite no apparent wear elsewhere. Probably assembled dry.

Good points?-cheap!. Did I say rugged-use a hammer whatever no problem. And the mainspring barrel is fairly clever-you can change it out without a teardown-just pull the center pin & it slides out.
Also the balance pivots are adjustable.

Accuracy worn is about + or - 1 minute a day. Good enough for most use.

When I'm not digging holes or dirty work a 21 jewel Lord Elgin that was built from 2 dead movements. Fake alligator strap as wide as the case & I love it. Very accurate-seconds a day. And when it is off pendant down gains a few & pendant up looses. So I can dial it to dead on easy. And it goes a suprising length of time when I forget to wind it-amazing little pieces.

Well Reichiec I just assumed since the case appears to be made of aluminum and it's 9 jewels it would be of their cheaper models like wesclox. Of which I have one of those too.. I have several Walthams but that one seems to be of not as good of quality as the rest. But I do like the styling of the watch.

Today, a Wyler DynaSonic tuning fork watch with an ESA 9162. As far as I can tell, it's a bit of an oddity (in that Wyler tuning fork watches aren't all that common). Any tuning fork enthusiasts who might know about this?

And I'm wearing my Shanghai reissue that arrived yesterday:

    DSC00082.JPG

Unlike most modern reissues, this is just of the size and the look that it used to have in 1958 when it was introduced.

    DSC00087.JPG

All steel case, embossed dial and signed crown...
The only difference is a different movement used in the current production,

    DSC00086.JPG

It's also a cheap watch, but quite well made for the money.
I think - as most of the vintage watches of the time are either too bad or too good to wear, this could be a nice alternative (in fact original, mostly well worn A581 are usually more expensive, but then - colllectable, of course :) )
