It could possibly have a Felsa 4000 movement or more specifically F 4006/7. Listen to it when you shake it in either direction. It should freewheel in one direction.

Today a lovely classic from early fifties - soviet Pobeda (translates as Victory) watch made in 1951.

    pabieda.jpg

It's the second Pobeda model, with very elegant, classic case - on one hand, nothing special, on the other it's clasically beautiful so to say.
This version has radium lume and not too well re-filled (and already re-loosing it ;) ) hands.

A nice vintage piece, very handsome :)

    pobmvt.jpg

Also very nice to wear w watch I've only just serviced myself!
And I am getting better ;)

Continuing Literustyfan's suggestion a few posts back about Waltham Wednesday, today I'm wearing my 1924 Waltham (serial 24,701,323), 15j, size 6/0. Its been in the family since new, but was missing the stem, sleeve and crown and had been sitting a drawer for decades before I inherited it. A local watch maker was able to adapt a stem and sleeve and added a period crown. I find it interesting that the movement comes out the front of the case, and is held in place by two screws, like a pocket watch. Given the age of the movement (model 1898) it probably was used in a ladies watch.

One poster suggests it "must be nice to be able to afford a Rolex". This is the one I am wearing, today. Owned it for 27 years. They aren't cheap........to buy. But divide the purchase price 27 years ago by 27, and consider this one is good for another 27 years, and you'll have difficulty proving to me that a cheap watch every two years, costs less to own.

This one has been serviced three times in 27 years, and is all original except that the original mainspring broke after 20 years, and I replaced it. Whether you wear a Rolex or a Snicklefritz, it is important to enjoy your watch. And, Rolex is NOT over-rated![IMG]

I miss my Datejust, I have just about got used to the submariner but it doesn't have the classy understated look of the datejust. People notice you are wearing a sub but they don't notice the datejust which suited me fine.

Sadly I could no longer tell the time so bought something with bigger hands, perhaps I should have changed to a datejust with more contrast instead as I have no trouble at all reading my other watch which has dauphine hands and baton markers but a better contrast.

I would have got a milgauss as I work in a Physics faculty, but I didn't like the shiny bezel, I did like the green sapphire on the blue dial.

My daily watch which I am currently wearing is a Seiko digital do a little of everything watch. It keeps time, has a stopwatch, counts laps, has a timer in about three different ways and is date programmed through 2026. I got it for Christmas in 1992 and it has been active most of that time. When it needed a battery just before last Thanksgiving I took it to a new local jeweler and was told that the battery could not be replaced in this watch. As I've had it done a few times prior I then handed it to a very sharp young lady who returned it in less than five minutes with all systems operating. The programming expires as I said in 2026 at which time I suppose it will simply explode.

I still see early Seiko digitals even the early solar ones, used as farm watches. Put the right hell on earth for watches with so many holes in the case. Pig dung caked on thick, some come in strongly smelling like he used that wrist and bare arm to stir the farm chemicals. Yes you can still fit a battery to them.

I very rarely wear a wristwatch (pocket watches are really my "thing"), but I found myself wearing this one tonight when my wife and I went out to dinner. It is a LeCoultre cal. 450 in stainless steel. I believe this one dates from the 1940s.

I agree, that's a nice wrist watch, Jerry. A lot of style, character, and quality. In addition, that's a very interesting cap-jewel setting on the balance. The case has that clean Patek Calatrava look. I don't know who came up with the style first, but it's a winner to my eye. Cheers.

Just got this back from RGM after getting it serviced. A early Sinn 103 with hand wind 7760 movement from the late 1980's or early 1990's. Got a special hand set and a single date and no day of the week. The sweep hand looks like what's on a German issued Heuer Bund a little different than most Sinn 103 love how the lume aged.

    In this, http://www.military-watches.net/CWC_vs_MWC.html

He describes that: I have tested the CWC and MWC G10’s and frankly the Ronda 705 and 715/715li movements in the MWC and the ETA 955 in the CWC (Ronda 715 in the GS2000) are both highly accurate as you would expect with a quartz movement so it is hard to go wrong. The main difference is that the MWC has a Ronda 715li with 10 year battery life where the standard ETA 955 or Ronda last 3 years.

They both use the same battery size. What would stop the ETA 955 from using a Lithium one?

This is so true. I have found that Omega is a much more reliable watch and less expensive. The Rolex Day Date that I once owned constantly was losing 2-5 minutes every 24 hours. Took it to a "Rolex Dealer" who said "Well they do market them well" so that was it for me. I agree with the poster above in that they are overrated. I dont hate them, they make a nice looking watch. However in my opinion they are overpriced and overhyped.

Yes. Alarm wristwatches have been around a long time and perhaps always popular with some wearers. I have a couple of Seiko Bellmatics.

Sorry for the pun, but how accurate is this statement. Is this just his watch
or is it indicative of the Rolex Day Date line. I am very surprised that a dealer
would disparage the watches they sell(and service). I have never owned a Rolex, and don't
plan to buy one in the near future, but I was just curious. (2-5 minutes a day is a lot)
I would have taken it to another dealer.
