Early '70s Omega, Seamaster. Not old, not exotic, sort of plain, but I like it, and the price was right :D.

    Hi!

I´m wearing my Rado Planning from the end of the 1960s, inside a nice GP 25-jw. AS 1859. The second part of the case contains a calendar with day- and date-scale.

    Hi,

I'm new here and would love to tell you what I'm wearing today.

A Cartier Octagonal stainless steel automatic watch with calendar.

Purchased it around 1978 or so in Paris.

I had my railroad approved watches on display at a railroad museum over the week end. I included this 1964 Accutron 214 and several other wrist watches in the display. It is one I've had for likely 15 years, but I've never worn it. It has the usual Canadian 24-hour dial. Looks and runs like new. Maybe I'll give it a break and wear it for a few days. I rather like it!

As far as daily carry goes, for the money, I've had good luck with Elgins and Walthams...rugged, dependable, and (as my Waltham pictured above shows) are sometimes just as beautiful and sexy as a more expensive Hamilton.

I bought this as part of a lot at a recent auction and I want to show it off. It was embarrassingly cheap and the lot included three decent Bulovas too.

This was the one I bought the lot to get. I had not looked at it during the preview so this was a fortunate flyer.

The best part is that it runs wonderfully. Its near dead on in rates in all positions, has great motion and is solidly in beat. The medalian on he back is reported to be 18k gold. The watch is from the early 60's

The band is small but I have a small wrist and it just fits me.

Re: What are YOU wearing today?

    Hi Doug,
The watch has an ETA 955.102 quartz movement. The case is about 37mm in diameter and made of stainless steel. I think it may be relatively rare, and I've never seen one on eBay. It was given to me by a former employee of Hamilton- as just a case, dial and hands. He also gave me the 955.102, but I think it may have been sold with an ETA 955.114.
EFA stands for "engineered for action", and that's how the caseback is marked, that's about all I know.
I was able to find this thread from another forum: http://www.watchtalkforums.info/forums/american-watch-forum/31376.htm

I suspect it was made in the late 1980's or early 1990's. I'd love to find out more about it myself.

When I got the watch - it was mocked up to look like a complete watch. Complete with dial, hands, crown, case, and movement spacer (it fits the ETA 955.102 perfectly).

    This should help

Apparently the trademark was first used in December 1986 and cancelled by March 1,1988, according to this website:
    http://www.trademarkia.com/efa-73645960.html

Does the dial have the 12,3,6 and 9 or are those spaces blank?
    Just curious.

Thanks for the info, Kate! The dial is just a normal dial with all numbers, some of which are hidden by the stainless crystal guard.

Re: What are YOU wearing today?

A project I have been working on since I bought the watch at a farm yard sale in rural Alberta back in June '10, for $ 2.00. (She was asking 50 cents for it, but I paid her $ 2.00). Exotic? No! Rough shape at the time? Yes! After replacing the rotor post, crown, crystal, re-finishing the dial, rhodium plating the case, reconditioning it, and fitting a strap, I'm into it for close to $ 200.00! Why, you ask. It's unusual. A Certina-Kurth cal. 28-45, 21-jewels, automatic wind, micrometer regulator, beautifully finished movement circa mid '50s. A picture of the movement may be seen on Dr. Roland Ranfft's movement archive at: http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&25&2uswk&Certina_28_45

It had been a farmer's watch, and likely worked well until he busted the rotor post, and it quit! He likely checked into having it fixed, but nixed the idea when he got an estimate.

Doug I saw your thread about that watch! I'm excited to see the finished product, it's beautiful! (and probably even more amazing on a personal level considering the time, effort, and story of it!)

    I'm currently wearing a 1990 Upper Deck U.D.C. Quartz watch, Red's edition.
An entire dollar on the popular auction site, packed with personal meaning considering:
    - born 5 minutes after the Reds won the World Series that year (October 20, 1990)
    - a lifetime Reds fan and Cinci native
Why yes that's a 3D holographic image on the crystal!

Still working for my first mechanical Gruen!

    badkneestom,

I find that watches in a collection that come with a story, are the ones I cherish the most. If Certina was ever represented in North America, the brand was never a big seller to the best of my knowledge. I would class this one along with many other brands of the era, including Omega, Longines, Movado, Zenith, Eterna, and likely numerous others. I have one regret! The chrome plated brass case! It really suffered over years of abuse. The movement in it deserved a better case.. But then, what do I know? It was a farmer's watch after all. He's probably dead long since, but I'll bet he'd be thrilled if he could see it now!

    Derek,

A goldsmith that I do some work for did the rhodium. If Certina has ever been marketed in North America, I get the feeling it wasn't widely distributed or advertised. I think the brand is now owned by Swatch, but I still don't see the brand around.
