I was given some spare parts and found this small assortment of odd parts.

These "cylinders" are about 1mm in diameter and come with a tiny hole in the center.

Can anyone here shed some light on what they are?

Hi,
these are raw cylinder-tampons. The little plug is the tampon, to be cut off after finishing

Hi Skutt,

These look like very small French clock bushings. If they were cylinder tampons they wouldn't be tapered.

Regards,

I have an assortment like these for re-bushing pocket watches. It's hard to see, but the tip of each bushing is reduced in diameter where it joins the stump. The bearing hole is reamed, the tapered bushing pressed into place firmly, then the stump is broken off at the neck.

I just checked them with a hand caliper and indeed they are tapered.....

The hole is of different size so bushings for small movements makes absolutely perfect sense. I never could have guessed!

Thanks all or the response.
