Hi all. new to the forum. i'm just a hobbyist who got started in this pursuit about 4 years ago while we were in lockdown & I needed something to occupy myself. Back in the day....when the money was easier....I bought a lot of high-end watches but in my dotage have found there's as much joy in the 'plebeian' side of the product. Started buying Timex, Westclox, Orient, Bulova, Caravelle, Ricoh, etc. and some newer micro brands. I concentrated on collecting dive/dive-style watches from the 60's through the 80's as they reminded me of my youth. I now have approx 70 nice working pieces and another dozen or so in various stages of repair-disrepair. this year i dove into actually learning to disassemble/reassemble some mechanical movement. I've been concentrating on WESTCLOX as they are less cost, and, for many years they installed Seiko-based movements. There's lots of info available to a novice like me with these movements. After buying a bunch of NOS Westclox parts I'm making some nice new builds. I've also noticed how i 'need' more & more tools! LOL. My first actual question is as follows; I have worked on 2 automatic movements so far - a Westclox A-331-1/Seiko 7005a and a Miyota 6T15. In both instances everything appeared to be correctly assembled with wheels free & balance free but there's no apparent release of the mainspring. E.G.: the watch gets wound but the balance doesn't start spontaneously. Blowing air gets it a few oscillations but them it stops. Most likely cause? TIA.
