Had decided we weren't going to buy anymore clocks unless they were really special but then this one came up. Only 15.8kg so small compared to our 32kg one! Liked the figures and frieze on this one. They should be gold so will probably restore them back to gold...eventually.

Attractive clock but heavy as you say. The maker?

I have adopted a one-in-one-out policy regarding my collection. There are only so many places you can put clocks in an average home.

There is nothing on the movement to suggest who made it. I was told it was French and a quick look on the internet at similar clocks suggest it may be a Japy Freres, but I have my doubts due to no markings. They liked to stamp their awards n the back! So at this stage purely guess work!

Sorry Love Clocks, I was referring to the clock Tony H, has posted. It might have been less confusing if he had started a new thread, maybe a moderator could separate them if he deems it necessary.

The original clock is a German movement. The back dock gives it away. I don't know the manufacturer, but I'm fairly certain it's German.

The movement looks German to me too, iirc some of them were assembled in France.

if You look into Nicolas Thope´s "The French Marble Clock" You´ll find quiet a few examples of German movements in these french clocks. They were prefered by some "assemblers" because they were cheaper than the french Pendule de Paris mvmts. I´ve seen Lenzkirch and HAC mvmts. of this size and with round plates ready to be built into these -sometimes Belgium- marble cases.
