I have managed to figure out the approximate ages of some cases by their styles.
My question is, has anyone put together a book on American cases, with styles and dates documented? It would have to rely heavily on period catalogs.
Barring that, is there a collection of catalogs that have been reprinted.
My usual Google searches have not yielded results.
    Thanks in advance to all.

Perhaps this encyclopedia article would be a good place to start. Unfortunately, some of he links no longer work.

    Thanks Kent!,
Your work behind the scenes fixing these links, updating/adding info to
the encyclopedia section has been a herculean effort. To have to
redo work(links) that you thought completed in the past is a thankless task.
The encyclopedia section is a "must read" part of the forum.

Thanks all. I checked out the encyclopedia article. It kind of confirms my guesses as to case styles over the years.
Lots of info on movements, not as much on cases.
However, as the article states, cases were considered consumable items. I have very few watches that I believe are just as they were originally put together by a jeweler. Quite a few old movements in much newer cases, hunters in open face cases, etc.
    Thanks!
