Watch box organiser mould issues

Hello
I got a nice looking watch box organiser two months back. Unfortunately black mould has started to grow. I live in a tropical climate so humidity is high. I kept the silica gel in the box but to no avail.

Any ideas how to avoid mould growing? What do you do with your organisers?

Yikes. I'm not the best one to advise you because I live in Southern California, where humidity almost never is an issue. Still, I keep my boxes of watches in a bank safe deposit vault that is climate controlled and I keep a dehumidifier in each of my safe deposit boxes. These dehumidifiers are the size of a large paperback book. They plug into an electric outlet. When plugged in, they heat up and dry the moisture-absorbing medium inside. I haven't had to dry them out for a few years. If I lived in a humid climate, I'd probably have to dry them out at least several times a year. I've never had any moisture problem and never any mold.

Thanks for the answer. These are my daily use watches and definitely it didn't cross my mind to have to store watches in a controlled chamber.

Was thinking more like some sort of a hack to prevent growth of the mould on the nice watch holders.

The watches used to lay everywhere in the house that's why wifey gifted the box.

Good afternoon, Fuzz!

Oddball idea, but perhaps worth a try: I had trouble with mold appearing in certain food containers, even in the fridge. As an experiment, I sprayed "spray duster" compressed gas into the containers before closing the lid. The stuff is said to be heavier than air, so it doesn't escape easily, and it doesn't seem to support the growth of mold. Had good luck with it. Have not experienced any detectable health effects. Once a day, a little dab'll do ya!

fuzz1, if your concern is preventing damage to the box, perhaps one of the methods in https://www.countryliving.com/home-maintenance/cleaning/a27379221/black-mold-removal/ will work for you. I suggested a dehumidifier because I perhaps wrongly assumed you were trying to prevent damage to your watches.

If we are talking wood here-?- and the black mold is growing into the wood itself, that is very bad. I would sand/refinish it.

Vinegar. White vinegar; mist with = black and sooty mould gone.
Of course, you'll still have to wipe it off. Use a cloth with a spray of vinegar on it.

Unfortunately it's a box that has been finished with some sort of fabric that comes in watch boxes. I think it's sweat after wearing the watch that causes the issue
