I have a model 57 #120720 that finally broke its staff (had been bent for some time). I am looking for a replacement staff and am curious if there was a part number given by waltham for the staff (since it is so old) Bruce

Julian,

Thanks for the information.. It is undersprung which narrows the field by 50%... I have never had to measure a hub before.. where is it measured at.. Is there a special device needed?

You just need a micrometer to make the measurements. The hub would be the maximum width of the ledge or table that the balance sits upon.

The dimensions are in mm. If your micrometer is in inches, there are 25.4 mm/inch, so multiply your inches by 25.4.

The following numbers are:
Total Length
Lower Height (end of lower pivot to bottom of balance)
Balance shoulder seat. (hole in balance)
Roller table seat. (Width of staff where roller held on)
Pivot diameter.

Waltham 18 size model 1857 Sprung under-Short waist #278
5.63 4.46 1.60 0.59 0.16 mm

Waltham 18 size model 1857 Sprung under-Long waist #279
5.71 4.42 1.62 0.60 0.18 mm
