Waltham Watches have had a checkered history since the company shut down its watch production in Waltham and became Waltham Precision.

At that time the rights to the name were sold to two different parties with the existing American marketing group holding the rights to the U.S. and I think Canada and the international rights being sold to a Swiss Company owned by a Japanese family with a long history with Waltham.

The American group went after the low end market and th Swiss group maintained a focus on high end modern designs.

Recently the current ownership of the Swiss Group obtained the rights to the North American market and are marketing a range of high grade watches with the idea of building modern interpretations of Waltham military designs.

That effort started with the "Vanguard" and "AeroNaval" lines. Both lines use high quality Swiss movements.

The AeroNaval line are a single design with a variety of case materials and colorways. The Vanguard line have some mechanical differences in addition to material and color distinctions.

The Vanguard XA is a modern interpretation of the Waltham XA Type-37 watch worn by Lindbergh on the first transatlantic flight. Like the AeroNaval it comes in several material and color combinations.

The Vanguard ETC is an interpretation of the cockpit clock Waltham Type-A13a Elapsed Time Clock. And like the others somes in a variety of colors and finishes on the same basic watch.

I have always been fond of the Wltham CDIA cockpit clocks and the Vanguard line includes an interpretation of that really nice clock as a wristwatch. I purchased the example of this model. The model is called the CDI GMT

I am glad to see some pride and quality returning to the American lineage. (But I still have difficulty thinking of them as being related to the historic American-made products of 100-150 years ago).

I am mostly delighted to see the $35 specials disappear.

After some addressing problems with UPS, I have received my Red 12 Field & Marine that actually arrived at my local UPS Depot before Christmas. I posted it in the wristwatch "What Are You Wearing" thread, but would like to show it here also. The paper clip in the editor tool bar lets me show an attachment over again.
