Waltham vanguard , no up/ down hand

I was going to give this Vanguard to my son. It’s #25344766, 1926, rr, gf, 23j, 16s. Should I give it as is or try to get a up/down hand installed. ? Are they difficult to find or install ? Thx.

Nice watch !

The hand is fairly easy to install if the post is there. Otherwise, it may be difficult to find a replacement.

It’s a great pocket watch. You might contact Dave’s Pocket Watch and Tools, or other internet sources that carry pocket watch parts. It’s an easy repair if the post is there. Definitely worth fixing.

There's a handset on Ebay currently....
As a tip, install with watch fully wound and hand pointing to the full wind position. When unwound, it will point off the scale on these. See mine below:
