Fellows, Would Waltham have ever put a private label dial on one of their Model 1894 or 1899 Riverside Maximus or Bridge models, or would a jeweller have done it? I know I have run into M-92 Vanguards and M-83’s with private label dials. Just wondering. Thanks, Sandlapper

I believe that for most Maximus movements the private-label dial would have been supplied with the movement, perhaps arranged by the jobber if not already supplied from the factory. If the movement also was marked for the jeweler I would be more certain that it was dialed at the factory. When I have seen private-label dials on Maximus movements it is usually a Maximus-grade dial. If it is a fancy dial (such as an O’hara dial) or a lower-grade PL dial I would suspect that the jeweler put it on, or even a collector trying to find a “suitable” alternative for a missing correct dial.
