• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

They are both 1888 models. One is OF and the other HC. Waltham did not usually designate a different model for open face and hunting case movements.

And some Model 1888's have the bottom of their train bridge cut off (design from factory), which makes them look a little different :)

Here are the three patterns, side by side. The first open-face movements (middle) had a fuller train bridge than the later ones (right).

It is easy to imagine that someone thought the later OF design was more attractive with the nicely displayed center wheel. The geometry did not allow that to be done for the hunter style.

Thanks for posting that Jerry.

And, to further clear up any confusion, here is an 1872 model. Notice that the top plate is one piece.

You really need an 1872 hunter to complete the set. :)
