The markings on the movement identify the watch as a A.W.W Co. of Waltham Mass. The serial # is 7840112. I think the watch dates to 1896. Could that be possible? The watch is in a Central Watch Case co. of Switzerland case and has the markings of a 19 K as well as a serial # of 3859260. There is nothing in the way of a jewel number or a model. I was hoping that some collector might be able to help me identify this watch. The watch had been in the family and was passed to my father in 1958 and to me in 1982. I am hoping to restore it to a good running condition. To see some pictures
I would love some suggestions as to who can repair this watch or any information on the watch in general.

The watch is a hunting cased Waltham Model 1888 Special, 16 size, 16 jewel, and only 2,000 of this configuration were made. I think it was made in 1898.

The watch was obviously recased in an open face case but in its hunting case position (with the stem at 3 o'clock) and the case is entirely unsuitable.

The watch is being restored with the correct hunter case. Being a newbie I hadn't a clue. I guess during the great depression the watch was recased as a repair. That's my guess.

Remember that the 1888 models take a special case. The will not work in a standard case as the stem set up is different. You remove the stem by the detente screw on the movement, only turn it a turn or so or you will have to dissemble the movement to fix it. Hope this helps.
