Hi All,

I just picked up what I believe to be a Vienna Regulator clock. It is in super condition - at first inspection. Any ideas on the model / year / value? I have done some cursory searches but have not been able to find an exact match. Any thoughts, insights welcome (and appreciated)!

Thanks!

I have pics the same cases with the Kienzle movement of the early 1890s.

Welcome to the board.

Can you show us a photo of the back plate of the movement? - there may be the maker's name or logo there.

The rubber stamp (Werthmann) on the back of the case is likely retailer.

thanks! JTD. Removed the faceplate is a little more involved that I expected. It looks like it is held on by 4 pins. I need to do some reading on best way to safely remove with damaging :). once I figure that out, I will post more pictures.

You don't need to remove the 'faceplate' (I'm guessing you mean the dial?)

Look below the movement and you will see two thumbscrews. Loosen them and you can slide the whole movement out forwards. without dismantling anything. Any maker's mark will be in the back of the movement.

THANK YOU, JTD. That saved me a bunch of research time :). The manufacturer emblem is tough to read but is wings with a circle stamp. There is a serial number under the logo and "54" to the right of it. the movement does not look like its ever been serviced based on the amount of residue. but generally in good shape.

Just for clarity, this is not a Vienna Regulator. They are weight driven clocks. Your clock would best be described as German spring driven regulator. Tatyana's initial reply was correct, that is a Kienzle trademark on your movement.

Thank you leeinv66 for taking a peek. Yes since posting this thread, I now realize that it is a German clock and a Kienzle movement. All of the member feedback has been great! Thank you again!

Thanks, Tatyana! I am curious (and want to learn)...how did you determine 1898?

There are more than 3 thousand Kienzle movements in my database.
I have not figured out the dating of all types of movements, but I am sure of these.
Such movements were made in the period 1890-1920 .
There is an article in a German magazine DUZ for 1898, which tells about a patent that was registered at the end of 1897.
This magazine contains an article with a photo of the mechanism 518463.
