verge problem

When my verge wheel tooth contacts the enter pallet, does the tooth need to be flat against the pallet? I don't think this verge it original to the movement because it don't look like an original one on another movement which I have. The tooth only enters on the very top edge of the verge, then the verge slides down the tooth to exit. But it runs for a week, but looks like this is putting more ware on the tooth and the top edge of the pallet. Don't see how the transfer of power could be all that good with no more contact. Is this the same Terry type clock that had the strike problem? If so I assume that you mean escape wheel tooth. It should not contact flat against the pallet. Would help to see a picture of what we are talking about. The pallet strip or verge is usually fairly thick on these but could have the wrong angles if it has been replaced or messed with. Just in case you may be unaware, these are usually hardened and will snap if you try to bend them.

Speaking of pictures. What type camera is best for taking close up pictures to help everyone see what I'm talking about. Have had this problem from the get go but don't have a camera but a lot of questions and I could help my elementary if I had a one. PS. Yes this is the same clock that HAS the strike problem. Have it apart now and see all the problems you mentioned. Need to shorten the the strike lever a few more thou, and I believe I'll be there. Thanks again. Carl in NC.

Few things in clock repair need to be shortened, as few things on clocks ever grow longer with age.

When the strike lever all most falls out and only sticks part way through the strike arbor ,no crimp , something has to be done. That was the escape wheel. My nomenclature is not up to par yet.

You will get the best close up pictures with a camera that has a macro setting. I like Sony cameras but most "smart phones" today should be adequate, although the picture quality varies.
