I have in for repair a Urgos UW32670 (new number UW32322). Problem I am having is when I pull up the time weight it throw the clock totally out of beat. When I had it tore down to clean and oil it I did put a new escape wheel on it as the other was rather worn. Was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a new verge for this unit? Short of that I will try to tighten it down but it looks like the last guy bummed it up some. Lots of marks and gouges on it. She said it never ran right when she got it back. She says everytime she winds it she has to reach down and swing the pendulum in a wide arc or it will stop. Said it was getting old and she never had to do that before he worked on it. Is there anything about that verge that should be looked at? I did not run it thru the Ultra Sonic. I just cleaned it by hand. Thanks.

Bernie, if it were me I would call Butterworth Clocks, Inc. and just get the new movement UW32322, to try to get a new old stock verge for your old unit would be hard to find, after talking to Mark you will find the replacement unit is the way to go. Good luck Al

Hi Bernie, I can't remember for sure the style autobeat you have. Could you give a picture? Someone may have a good one in their "bonepile" they would be willing to part with or have an idea of how to tighten yours a little.

As a note, cleaning an auto beat setting anchor, whether by hand or by machine is not a great idea. The reason is that the clutch part is not water friendly and will be ruined if wet. Instead, only surface cleaning the dry anchor is the way to go.
Regarding your sloppy anchor, the best bet is finding a replacement. However, it's not terribly hard to disassemble one, replace the clutch material with something similar from around the shop, and put it back together with the proper tension against the clutch.

Obviously your verge is slipping causing it to go out of beat. See if it's possible to tighten it so it won't slip, alternately, you can stop the clock while winding, and it may stay in beat.

Thanks to all. Larry it is definitely slipping. Like I said the guy that had it before me really messed it up. Plier marks and gouges all over the verge. I talked with her today and told her I could replace it with a new one with a 2 yr warranty for about the same money as I could to repair it. I did find some info on repairing them without the four prong spring is gone. It is in the clockmaker newsletter Jan 01. I may give it a try and if it works good I will have a verge in stock. I could not find anyone that had one as far as suppliers go. Can't take a pic's as my wife has the cell and camera.:D

I used this device ( see pics) on an Urgos GF. Clock would not stay in beat. Setup the autobeat and a few minutes later...out of beat. Some folks get the clock in beat and super glue the verge to the arbor...I guess it works sometimes.

What I use to correct a slipping clutch is a clamp that stradles the verge and compresses the clutch thus increasing the coupling of the arbor to the verge. It weighs a few grams. It takes a few minutes to make, its efficacy can be readily determined and it is easy to remove (unlike super glue).

Good luck.
