This movement was sent to me by friend from another shop. This clock was cleaned and repaired by another shop originally about 15 years ago. In all they charged the owner around $300 for the original cleaning and two subsequent house calls because the clock would not stay running. After call number 3 he gave up and it stood silently for years. He took it to my friend to try again after all these years. He just oiled and set it up to test since it had not run. It works fine for a while but at some point you will see the verge appear to hang on the escape wheel, kick back, and stop. I have just begun to work on it but this is what I noticed. This escape wheel is not original. It is the right diameter and tooth count but if you look at the pictures you will see they used a pair of dikes and nipped off the shaft for a seconds hand. However, it is still too long and intermittently hits the top or rubs the back of the chime release arm. This hangs the escape wheel and the verge chokes. This is mostly aimed at our newer repair people. Check everything, watch everything, and look for the obscure. I will post updates as things progress.

I love these oddball ones. It's very satisfying when you find and solve these mysterious ones. Nice detective work clauss.

If the original repairer had just cleaned up the end of the EW arbor when they lopped it off. These irritating intermittent problems can have you pulling your hair out. Least that's my excuses for not having much left

OK. I promised an update. Not that this is rocket science or anything but from what was found originally to what we have now. Repairs have been made and the clock is working fine after 15 years of silence.
