I bought this Grandfather clock with the UW 03038 movement 9 tube. What is this gear assy. that drives the chime, It uses two differant wheels off the chime train to drive the chime, Is this to reduce wear on the train ?? Or what?? 499.jpg

If you follow the power from the cable drum gear up through, you will see that power to the music wheel comes from one side of the bevel gears. This turns the music drum and the gear on the drum then drives the other side. Continue to follow the power back to the movement and up to the fly. Its a very unique way to drive the music roll. Whatever you do, do NOT loosen that set screw on the back gear with the weight on the clock!! If you do, that weight will sing to the bottom quicker than you can say, "oh darn" or something to that effect. :)
So it is not driven from both sides as one may think.

I too have found that this particular movement has little tolerance for wear.

Might be my questions is too late in time . I have also the same movement in very bed condition. Actually tubes is absent. Can you perhaps inform about tube dimensions and send for me couple of the photos of this movement. Do you have contact information where parts for this movement can be found. Thanks, Aleks.

These 9 tube sets are available from several suppliers.

Get ready to cough up about $600, more or less.

many thanks for the information. I really intend to make this tubes, not to buy. So it would be nice to have some dimensions for such tubes.
Thanks
