do You remember a thread about Vedette clocks a couple of month ago? Someone here asked about the purpose of that metal clip that can be found in the lower left corner of some Vedette clocks.I answered that this clip retaines a small booklet of 24 pages containing operating instructions for the clock in English,French,German andSpanish and I promised to show it soon. When I went to my clock to fetch the little book it was not there!!!!
After turning around allmost every item of my household I remembered that I sold one Vedette ca 2 years ago.I called the buyer and yes,he had it.So it is back again!
Now I´m going to copy it for me and other friends of mine who allso have a Vedette, and making some more copies will make not too much trouble. So if anyone here is interested please PM me and I´ll have some more copies made. For reason of non-violating our "not for sale ad rule" I´ll PM You what the copy shop will charge me for one copy, but believe it will not cost an arm and a leg!
Best regards
Burkhard

Just an idea, Burkhard - you could make a PDF document of the book and post it here on the site. Then folks could print their own, and cut it to size. It would also always be here for future seekers :)

Here is the booklet in PDF format. To make your booklet, use a standard weight semi gloss paper, and select your best quality color printing option. Print the first 7 pages, flip vertically only and print the second file on the back of the previous pages. I used a standard document format to be sure the edges were printed properly. After printing, check the page order. When I printed a sample copy, I had to re-arrange a couple of pages. Otherwise all should be good. You might want to take the copy to your local printer for accurate cutting and stapling in the center. You could probably do it yourself if you have the tools.
A big thank you to Burkhard for making this generous contribution to the MB!

Technical information regarding Fabrique d'Horlogerie La Vedette SA is scarce. Despite the company's prominence throughout the early to mid 20th century little has been published about this company (something I'd be eager to remedy).
Vedette basically introduced the ubiquitous 'box regulator' to the French clock industry. During their heyday they were perhaps the most renowned maker of chime clocks in France, balancing quantity with quality. They were one of the few companies to enjoy further success after the second world war but as with many other clock companies they fell on hard times following the decline of the mechanical clock industry.

I just found this useful resource which should give further light into the company history:
La Vedette et Jaz accord de collaboration 1949

Hello , i'm Denis Raquin creator - with Boris Paglia- of jazlebontemps.com where do you find that article about Jaz and Vedette .Jazle bontemps is a real historic and technical encyclopedia of the brand JAZ from 1919 till 2000. Based on the pooling of our two great collections , this site is constituted by 1546 articles and by 6879 illustrations making the exhaustive inventory of the 1263 Jaz bearing a name, looking back on the founders and on managers, redrawing the history of the brand, listing factories worldwide, evoking the industrial partners and the artists collaborators, approaching the retailers affiliated by postcards, quoting the appearances of Jaz in the cinema and in the french literature, reproducing our 231 paper advertisements and advertising objects, detailing the calibres, analyzing the evolution of techniques, reminding the technological world premieres of Jaz , etc. but i'm sorry it's only in french now . I'm new on NAWCC but we can help you about Jaz and Vedette too because i prepare a site abo that brand , I still have at least one working year before returning it public - Jaz asked us two working years in full time - but if you need information on this brand I am at your disposal

Hi - I found the article during a Google search for old Vedette clock advertisements. Years ago I did a freelance study on Vedette's clocks, while there are several examples of Vedette's clocks I had a hard time finding technical or historical information. I would be eager to see any information you have on Vedette chime clocks - photos, advertisements, anything you have on hand.

Dear Larry , that's right I prepare a website about Vedette but it will be in french language ; it's a really big work and I need time to expose it , probably one year or more. I don't have yet all the informations that I need to do a complete website like jazlebontemps.com , consult it you will understand ( for Jaz we have spent more than 40.000 € to buy all the alarm clocks and wall clocks that was lacking in our both collection + two years to write it - full time job- with my friend Boris Paglia and we continue to add all days new informations ) . I am some more lacking Vedette catalogs , it's scare difficult to find and expensive but essential to understanding the story of that brand .For Vedette I am not going to buy all the clocks, it is too expensive and voluminous; this site will be collaborative: every French family - or almost - possesses a Vedette clock at home .Trough to my site Jaz and my friendly networks, I am going to ask to send me of the pics and characteristics of their clocks for the site , so you undertand it will long to do . I am soon going to meet the new owners of the brand Vedette ; I hope that they will have catalogs or essential information to progress . You will understand that I cannot give you all the information which I have about Vedette but I can answer you on precise questions, for the rest it will be necessary to wait of course . Hope to help you . Best for you Denis Raquin

Thank you all for this wonderful information, I registered to this site to get the booklet PDF, I have an exact same clock with one difference, the dial has also the 13-24 hours mentioned in very light colored numbers inside the 1-12 numbers ring. It has the brand vedette mentioned under the number 12 and just below the middle where the hands are connected, the brand "Jabé".
It has all the mentioned features as the pictures in this thread (don't mind the kids stuff in and on the clock... they like it this way... a rarity they like the clock anyway in this digital age).
This clock was found in the house of my wife's grandmother in Finland 11 years ago, where it has been since who knows how long!! she died in 2009 at the age of 94, and it seems she was the first owner.
