Tiffany Clock? The Manufacturer?

I recently purchased this clock and was hoping for more information. The engraving for Tiffany looks a little odd, I think it says TIFFANY & COMPY? The movement has AF with a circle around it, anyone know if this is the trademark for the actual manufacturer and who it is? Is this French? Under the Tiffany engraving, it says 1913, does this represent the date? On the escapement, are those jewels, what are they made of? What type of clock would this be considered? Thanks for all your help.

The movement is a pendule de Paris. They are a somewhat generic but high quality French movement used by pretty much every French manufacturer of the era. The clock style is...portico? (i think) I can’t help you with the Tiffany aspect. the "compy" is probably an abbreviation of company.

i wasn't aware they made these movements in the 20th century. my guess would have been 1880's or so....

it's been over 30 minutes, so i cannot edit my original response.

i just looked at your pics on my laptop instead of my cell phone so i can enlarge them much better now. as to the 1913, there is a pretty good chance that is a serial number rather than a date. most likely there will be other places on the movement and back of the dial with those same numbers or the last 2 digits. the pendulum leader looks wrong to me. i think your pendulum is not original. it looks like it came out of a crystal regulator rather than this clock.

the pallets in the escapement are probably synthetic rubies. honestly, they look way to big for that escape wheel to me. i am guessing they are replacements. the brocot adjustment appears to have that little spring tab on the side so that would put this clock after 1865.

I agree with Brian - this is a French clock marketed by Tiffany. AF is likely the mark of the finisseur - these French movements were assembled by a whole host of different people and it is almost impossible to know who did what.

I am not so sure about the pendulum not being original to the clock - I think it might well be, but that is just a feeling, based on the general appearance. I agree the pallet jewels look too big, though perhaps that could be due to the camera angle..

All in all a very nice clock.

thanks Brian for pointing out the brocot spring fact. My son(14) and I have been collecting and learning about clocks just for a few years and we are constantly learning. Here is a better picture of the click spring adjustment.

It might be. If so, it would be in the old French measurements (pouce and ligne). You could measure the pendulum to check.
