• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

This is my very first purchase, and I need help!

Hello all,

I am not a collector, as a matter of fact I know nothing of antique clocks. I purchased this clock as a gift to my wife for our 33rd wedding anniversary as we recently purchased an 1848 Italianate and we are trying to fill it a little. I am looking for as much information as I can get, even directions for reassembly and basic functions and maintenance would be incredibly helpful.

What I have discovered is that it is a Lorenz Furtwangler Sohne (LFS) clock made in Furtwangen, Germany. It is unlikely made1860's and that I probably paid too much. But she liked it, so that's what counts. (plus I should know better than to dice in head first)

The tag stated this is an 1860s German round top grandfather clock in a ribbon mahogany case. Image search yields similar clocks, but nothing exact. These pictures are what I have, I'll be happy to provide any pictures that you request as well. I have four fireplace so I will be getting mantle clocks for each one, so I guess this won't be the last time I pester you all!

AND lastly, I assume there are directions on how to reassemble it? Before I could get to it, the shop already had it disassembled. My biggest question is where to put the weights, specifically of what side of the chain?

Welcome to the board.

Your clock is certainly not from 1860. Judging by the style of the case and the dial it is likely around 1910-20.

The clock will go together quite easily. The movement will slide back on the guide rails on the sides of the case. The pendulum should hook back onto the leader (which is not visible in your photos).

Do both the weights weigh the same or are they different?

Is 134340 a model and serial number putogether?
If heavier, would that weight power the chimes?
Thank you.

Beautiful clock! I'm surprised the clock shop didnt offer to take it to your place and set it up for you. Thats what any of the ones here normally do.
