I have recently serviced this very nice skeleton wall clock that I bought at an auction, no name or other markings. It came with the weight but was without a pendulum so I constructed one with advice from some members here and after several adjustments to the pendulum length it kept good time. However it stopped after a few days and has continued to do so with varying lengths of running for no apparently reason. It has automatic beat setting and when I start it is in near prefect beat according to my beat timer. Since I can't judge when it is going to stop I haven't been able to determine whether or not it suddenly goes out of beat or stops for some other reason. I have disassembled it several times to check for pivot or bushing wear but they all appear near perfect - I don't think it is a very old clock. Some times it will only run for a few hours and other times for a day or more. Any suggestions as to how I might determine the cause would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know what beat setting set-up yours has, but some of these have a little spring wire that puts pressure on the pallet arbor. I have had to remove that spring on some and bend it inward so it puts more pressure on the arbor. They tend to slip and get out of beat easily, especially if they are oiled. No oil at all on that arbor. Can you post a photo of the pallets and the crutch area? Yours may be different.

Your new pendulum might be to heavy. They normally have a light pendulum.

I have a Hermle skeleton clock that looks very similar to yours. Its pendulum weighs 2 lbs. 14 oz. It's also very touchy about being in beat.

Wow, I think my clock may have the same auto beat arrangement, see attached. So I'll disassemble again and widen the spring a bit.

Sorry - first cup of coffee hadn't kicked in when I wrote the above. The *weight* is 2 lbs. 14 oz. Apologies for the confusion.
