does anybody recognize this stamping I found on the backside of the mainbridge of an otherwise unmarked swiss watch dating around 1870?
Setting my hopes on Enrico , who seems to be a specialist for these questions!
Thanks for any comments.
hello Thomas
the brand under mainbridge not identify the ebauchers. because two different suppliers. Jacot very common name at least thirty jacot worked in watchmaking. even if we only know George Favre Jacot
at least three ebauchers (movement en blanc) makers making this caliber; Aubert Freres, Piguet Freres, and Louis-Ami Capt
Gruess Gott enrico
my guess was "Jacot freres", a firm foundet by Fritz Jacot , born 1832, and his brother Gustave, born 1830, in LeLocle and Geneva (watchwiki).
Later on, the firm was renamed in "Terasse watch Co" and was in business till 1986.
Jacot freres took part in the Piladelphia exhibition in 1876 and presented several watches.
There were several brand names:
-Gustave Jacot
-Cocotte 1886
-Tunnel 1888
-Terasse 1889
-Tobias 1889
-Monnard Geneve 1889
-Primax 1911 All this comes from watchwiki.
But, of course, I`m not sure, the stamping on the watch identfies it as Jacot freres.
