That clock has a very heavy pendulum so a thinner suspension spring may exaggerate a wobble problem but unless the spring is wrinkled, just being thinner is not the cause of the wobble. Almost all the time wobble occurs because something is attempting to push the pendulum in a different direction than it naturally wants to swing. With this type of suspension (thin suspension and heavy pendulum) wobble often begins when the clock is started. If it clears on its own after a couple minutes there is nothing to worry about. If not check the following:

1) The post that holds the suspension spring, and the slot in the post are exactly perpendicular to the movement plate.

2) The slot in the crutch foot is also exactly perpendicular too the movement plate. (Sight up through the crutch foot to the suspension post for perfect alignment)

3) Make sure the suspension spring is not creased or wrinkled.

4) make sure the suspension feather is snug (not tight) in the slot in the post, and that it is uniformly "pinched" along the entire width of the feather. (This fault will cause the pendulum to twitch or curve mostly at the end of the swing as opposed to "fish tailing" for the entire swing.

5) Some defects in the suspension spring/feather may not be visible and the only way to know is swap for a known good feather.

Take the whole pendulum assembly out of the clock, hold the suspension rod between your thumb and forefinger (grasp it just below the suspension spring) then sight down the suspension spring/suspension rod/ pendulum et all. The whole shebang should be as straight as an arrow. Adjust as necessary.

Plus what RC said. Willie X
