Hello my friends,

Today I put my oil moebius D5 but It looks a little dark. Is it really so or is it already spoiled?
It is approximately 5 years old.

Thanks

Hello my friends,

I have some concrete doubts in these pieces, i use in my pocket watches this:

to pivot balances: moebius 9010
Palet stones: moebius 941
Centre wheel: moebius D5
3rd & 4th wheels: moebius 9010
Escape wheel: moebius 9010

this oils are correct to parts of watch or you have another sugestion?

Hello Nuno,

Looks good, but might want to go with a heavier oil on the 3rd and 4th wheels, maybe the D5. For a good reference, please see attached table from Moebius with general recommendations for which oil/grease for different size movements. Lists both the synthetics as well as the traditional oils. You can find this on Moebius's website, and they provide some good tech info on each oil/grease including shelf life.

Hope this helps.

Don

I haven't used D5 for many years (I use HP1300 instead) but I don't remember it being dark brown out the of the bottle.

Hi nuno,
...but I don't remember it being dark brown out the of the bottle.
I think you should use that D5 to oil a squeaking door hinge, or maybe a bicycle chain! Moebius Synt-HP 1300 (9104) is a better option anyway, it's less likely to spread.

Graham

Is HP1000 okay in place of HP1300 or are they too different?

By the way, I have a new bottle of D5 and it looks a little lighter than the one pictured.

Hi Marv,

Is HP1000 okay in place of HP1300 or are they too different?
HP1300 is almost a third more viscous than the 1000, but that series is all synthetic. It still only has a recommended shelf life of six years, and that's with keeping it tightly closed and in the dark, which should be standard practice for all oils.

By the way, I have a new bottle of D5 and it looks a little lighter than the one pictured.
The Microgliss D series are mineral/animal oils, which is probably why nuno's has turned that colour after a few years. I have a bottle somewhere which is ten years old and it's khaki coloured; needless to say, I don't use it any more.

9415 stays where it's put better than 941, and although it used to be specified only for higher frequency movements, it's good for any escapement.

Regards,

Graham
