Can anyone report on the status of the NAWCC project to record every public tower and street clock in the U.S.?

It seems to have been in the beta stage for a very long time, but maybe I have just lost track of things.

Update, please?

It is their "spot a clock" program. There have been details in The Bulletin, maybe info the The Mart. I personally have been active in my home state long before the NAWCC really got going with this. I have some data, need more.

What Tower Clock Project? Never heard of it. Must be a Chapter Project!
Check your latest MART, page 20. That ad has been running for more than three years, plus check the SpotAClock page on the NAWCC website for an online reporting form and description of the program and its objectives.

At last report more than 400 clocks have been entered in our register.

Yep--not a chapter project but an NAWCC project.
As John said--been going on for a while now with forms you can fill out that come in the Mart.

Re: Staus of NAWCC Tower/Street Clock Project?

So, Why has it not been promoted here on the GREAT NAWCC Message Board. Where are all those wonderful clocks and the information being stored?

I have collected some "Light Catchers" and "Dream Catchers", but it seems to be they collect more "Dust" than anything else.

I have even colledted some OLD POSTCARDS, but I like to DISPLAY what I have collected and enjoyed!

Re: Staus of NAWCC Tower/Street Clock Project?

My query was just that; a request for an update. No criticism of any kind was intended. I know well that these seemingly "simple" projects are, in actuality, extremely complex and immensely time consuming for those doing the work. Their time and efforts are very much appreciated.:thumb:

I read the "Status" section on the main board, but wanted an update because phrases like: "but that can’t start until sometime next year." don't tell you much when you don't know when the posting was made.

I have submitted several photos, including the Santa Paula clock I posted on this thread. I am really looking forward to this "SpotAClock" project getting up to full steam.

It has been so long since I have heard anything about it, I just wanted to be sure it was still active and on schedule. :???:

Re: Staus of NAWCC Tower/Street Clock Project?

The current project database needs to have data entered by staff or a trained volunteer. The project to make the data entry public and bullet proof has been faltering for lack of funding and a concern that the payback might not justify the expense.

Enthusiastic support will help to move this forward, but it will not become a major point of pride for a while yet. There is still a lot of work to do both in the concept and design areas.

My personal hope (stress personal - not board member) is that this pictorial database and others will become major features of our public face as well as in-depth research tools for members and other serious scholars.

Re: Staus of NAWCC Tower/Street Clock Project?

I have used my collection of PostCards to stimulate interest in Tower, Street, and Monumental Clocks of the World. I have also made it where each clock has its very own thread for discussion. This also is a method to stimulate interest in the various clocks that have been shown.

The NAWCC has a Data Base of Tower and Street clocks of their own that could also be used. That interest can be sparked right here on this MB.

This Web Site has a larger Storage Capacity than I do, now.

So, Why is it that so many are afraid of using it?

Where are the NAWCC members that would want to help with this ENDEAVOR?
