As you all know we had two pretty good "shakers" here in central/southern California, a 6.4 and a 7.1 and thankfully no one seriously injured...............a friend who has a tall clock that has not run for years all of a sudden started and has not stopped, saves a few dollars for a check up and she said it runs well and sounds great !

maybe we should move this to 'clock repair' as another suggested way to get a clock to run? (perhaps not... o_O)

Sometimes clocks that are packed and shipped, that were previously seized, will start running. Next best thing to an earthquake. Especially in Winter, probably the metals contract and loosen things.

Nature and clocks... In May of 2007 the small town of Greensburg, Kansas was ground zero for an EF-5 tornado. There was a historical museum on Main Street that was damaged extensively. Much of the town was completely leveled. I either read about it or talked to someone at the museum, but they had an atmos clock as a museum exhibit and the guy said it never would run. When the tornado came through, the huge drop in barometric pressure caused the atmos clock to start working and it continued running fine after that. I wouldn't recommend that as a troubleshooting option.
