• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Hi, apologies if this is the wrong section to post this question.
I am in the process of shipping a pocket watch from the UK to Jones Horan for auction.
Tried Fed Ex and DHL websites to obtain info but no luck (probably my inaptitude on the site)
Has anyone had any experience or have recommended couriers?
Thanks,

Let us know what they say please :)

Allan.
I asked the question when originally contacting Jones Horan, Must say the responses from them were very speedy and appreciated but unfortunately could not help, this is part of the reply:-

As for shipping, while I am very familiar with shipping items TO England, I'm not sure what is involved with the opposite procedure!

Which is understandable... I have been advised to try Transglobal Express which I am following up.

Will let you know what happens in due course.

If it is a pocket watch why not use Royal Mail? They will use USPS at the other end tracked at every stage door to door. There is a problem with insurance though, insurance companies are not keen on clocks and watches as a rule.

The advice given, above is sound, sending an article like a pocket watch to Jones & Horan in America is easy. You do as you would if you were sending it to Liverpool. (Example) It is when it is coming from America or Australia to you things go wrong, and expensive. This board is full of stories about the poor service by DHL. They have a service called DHL Express, (€37) It takes longer than the normal post, by an average of 3 to 4 weeks. If you are not in on the day it arrives (they do not give notice of arrival) you then have to find out where they have it. If you are lucky and you have complained, they may give it to you, or they send it back to Australia. (Believe me, it happened twice to me) Plus then, there are the import duties, which the Americans don´t have for antiques. (It all works better if you pay the import duties beforehand) I have bought watches from J&H and their service is very good.

Royal Mail is screwed up because of a ransom attack last month. I am waiting on a mainspring from Cousins.

I bought something through Ebay and it is being sent via Royal Mail. Estimated to take 3 to 4 weeks to deliver and it is not much bigger than 4 pocket watches.
