Setting up Church Clock 1803

My local Church clock was made in 1803
How would it have been set up , time and accuracy ,then?

I expect you already have Chris McKay's little handbook, but if not, he does mention on page 7 that clocks were set from a sundial. This would have been the only method for hundreds of years before reasonably accurate and reliable weight driven clocks were available.

Both articles are very interesting
I wondered how clocks were regulated in the early 1800s
I am regulating the local Church , St Marys' Welwyn , after it was converted to electrical winding
A radio controlled digital clock is much easier than a sundial

I have got the clock from gaining two minutes a day to around twelve seconds a week, roughly a minute a month
I may be able to do better, I do not know yet
It is probably the most accurate it has ever been
