So...received this ST Sonora clock today from a customer to repair. He said the chimes weren't working. The whole darn chime mechanism is MIA! Do these ever come up on the auction sites? Any idea what the chime movement number is? The clock movement is #89 O, and is very clean good working order. The strike works as it should. He picked it up at a local flea market for $50.00, so no way to trace the previous owner. I'm at a loss here...

Unfortunately, the clock movement is also not for the Sonora. It doesn't have the two levers on the back that interact with the Sonora chime movement. The Sonora clock movement couldn't strike on its own. The strike is triggered by the chime movement. I believe the movement has been replaced to make it a striking clock after the chime movement had been removed for some reason.

To make this a chiming clock you would need both the clock and the chime movement. The bells are all there, maybe it is possible to find a Sonora 5 bells clock with the bells damaged or missing?

Yes Sonora movements come up for sale once in a while, the chime movement less often, good luck keep looking.

Certainly not a bad clock as is.

If you're lucky, you may run across the right movements someday in a smashed case.

I think someone cannibalized the clock, sold the innards for parts and then sold the case with another movement. The good news is that they left the nest of bells. Those alone sell for $300 or so. It's still going to cost to get it back to original, and you need to be aware that the same case came with either bells or rods, and the Sonora movement has to match.
Just an idea, he could sell the nest of bells and make a nice profit, and put a gong in the case for the strike.

If you get lucky and find the two Sonora movements, make sure that they are for a 5 bell chime. The Sonora clocks came with 4, 5 or 8 bells. The order the bells are nested is not the same for the different versions.

Your customer may get more by selling the 5 bells and the movement separately.
