I have this Seth Thomas ships clock I seen l restored. All back together running strong but the strikes aren't aligning with time.
The count wheel and strike wheel interact by another gear. So I'm assuming I should have made a mark on the 2 before disassembling it. So basically I have to take the top plate off and align them right. Any help would be appreciated
The 2nd pic the green dot is the beginning of the 4 hour sequence.

What exactly do you mean with " the strikes aren't aligning with time"? Is the clock striking the correct sequence but just not in agreement with the position of the hour hand or is something else off?

So to start dingding is one hour ding is half hour. At one point in the sequence it hits dingding dingding ding dingding dingding. If you understand ship clocks that's not right.
Dingding dingding ding is 2:30/6:30 or 10:30. But the two dingding dingding after is nothing.

You need to position the strike wheel correctly. You will have noticed that it has long and short pins. the short pins responsible for the "silent" half hour strike. The best explanation I found is in the book "The modern clock" By Ward L Goodrich. Here is a link. The article you need starts on page 313.

These can be a challenge. This may help (see picture). Start by aligning these wheels as shown and tie them together so they don't slip during assembly. Note the alignment is not a perfect tooth over tooth match so, it may take a couple tries to get it right. Align the other parts as shown before assembly. Above all DO NOT bend the little lifting tabs in an attempt to get it right.

Thank you. After looking at it many times I figured that was the alignment. Great to have confirmation. Still seems damn tricky. But love the diagrams. Thanks

Thanks for that RC. Haven’t had the pleasure of tackling one of these yet, but your pictures and info will no doubt save a lot of time and stress when one comes by. Much appreciated.

Wow that was quite the test of patience. The bitch is you have to take the strike train apart to get that arbor loose that locks these together.
Only about 7 tries and I finally got it. Thanks alot for the diagrams

Finished. Quite the challenge. Great learning experience. Thanks to R. Croswell. Had to make a new count wheel bar. And the little mount that holds the balance spring stable.
Running strong and striking right
