• Upcoming updates
Over the next couple of weeks we will be performing software updates on the forum. These will be completed in small steps as we upgrade individual software addons. You might occasionally see a maintenance message that will last a few minutes at most.

If we anticipate an update will take more than a few minutes, we'll put up a notice with estimated time.

    Thank you!

Just picked this one up at the antique market. It would be much appreciated if someone can put a name and date to it. Needs a good cleaning and the pendulum "not original" needs to be replaced but otherwise in good condition. I saw another online that was dated 1880 but I don't know how long this model was manufactured.

According to the book by Tran Duy Ly, published by Arlington Book Company Inc., I think your clock is the Arno, circa 1900. Height is 11.5", Base 12.5", Dial 5". Original price $6.

It says ARNO on the back of the case, so I think Grant has got it right.

The bottom of the case is stamped "9981?," where the "?" is a letter I cannot read. The numerals are to be read right to left, so "1899" for the year of manufacture. The letter would indicate the month.

Everything I needed to date and name the clock was right under my nose. It's my first Seth Thomas black mantle clock next time I'll know. I like to leave my clocks original does it hurt the value of these clocks to polish the brass feet, lions heads etc. Thanks to all for the responses.

I tried to read the letter for the date with a big magnifying glass but still can't make it out.

You have to be very careful cleaning the adornments, you could end up in a mess,I would leave alone,it looks fine. Regular wiping with a clean duster would improve the lions heads, hand cleaning with brasso, will make a difference, but don't put the feet in a ultrasonic tank.i would definitely leave them alone, apart from washing in warm soapy water with a wash down brush.
