Hi All! Does anyone know where I can get a replacement motor (I believe this clock takes an M4 motor) for a E538? The original motor is burned out. Black crumbly stuff falls out of it when it's shaken and of course it does not turn under power anymore. I cleaned it for a client and it worked perfectly for a week. The client took it home and it would not run, so they brought it back and I pulled the motor and noticed the black bits falling from the motor.

Anyway, I've look at many parts providers and I'm coming up empty handed.

From what you described it seems that the field coil went bad, You can purchase the coil and capsule rotor separately.

I did check with Griffin. They don't carry the motor (M4T-60C) or coil.

Does anyone know of a resource for the coil?

They might not have the same numbers but I think the field coil for a General Time capsule may be the same see picture. General Time was the parent company of Seth Thomas and Westclox. Compare it may work, and they have a capsule for it too.
